Egypt’s Badr City Shuts 40% of Plants on Political Violencce

Egypt’s Badr City reported on Wednesday that 40% of its factories were suspended following the Egyptian police’s clearing out Cairo’s two major protest camps in Rabaa Adaweya and Nahda squares.

Alaa Al Sakty, Head of Badr Investors Association, further explained to Amwal Al Ghad that most of the workers of Badr City’s factories were unable to come today for the main roads and highways had been closed in Greater Cairo. Accordingly, the factories decided to close their doors early today at 14:00 p.m. (12:00 GMT) so that the workers would return homes safely, Mr. Al Sakty added.

He further said the ongoing political violence is not likely to continue, stressing his confidence in the country’s interior ministry to arrest the culprits.

On the potential negative repercussions, Mr.  Al Sakty pointed out that the current events will indeed reversely affect the investment on the whole. Yet, he said he had received confirmations from foreign investors shown their willingness to invest in the Egyptian market.
