Egypt’s East Port Said Port receives 173,000-ton iron ore vessel

Egypt’s East Port Said Port has received on Sunday the GENCO LION, one of the world’s largest Capesize dry bulk carriers, at the Sky Ports multipurpose terminal to unload approximately 173,000 tonnes of iron ore.
Arriving from the Port of Nouadhibou in Mauritania, the vessel measures approximately 292 metres in length, 45 metres in width, and has a draught of 17.7 metres, underscoring the port’s sufficient water depth, efficient berths, and the operational readiness of the Sky Ports terminal.

The General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) said the call reflects East Port Said Port’s growing ability to accommodate vessels of varying sizes and cargo capacities, strengthening its position as a regional hub for international trade and boosting the competitiveness of Egyptian ports.

The latest arrival builds on the Sky Ports terminal’s operational achievements in 2026, following the reception of the MATHILE OLDENDORFF, a 300-metre-long vessel, and the MV PAROSHIP, measuring 292 metres, reflecting increasing confidence among global shipping lines in the port’s capabilities and infrastructure.
