Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El-Khatib met on Tuesday with Spain’s Economy Minister Carlos Cuervo to explore ways to strengthen economic relations and increase bilateral trade and investment. The meeting took place on the sidelines of El Khateeb’s official visit to Spain, as reported by the Egyptian Cabinet.
Discussions focused on enhancing investment cooperation in key sectors, including energy, infrastructure, technology, manufacturing, textiles, agriculture, food processing, and transport. Minister El-Khatib highlighted Egypt’s competitive investment costs, strategic location near European markets, and strong trade ties with the EU.
He also pointed to Egypt’s trade agreements, particularly the Egypt-EU Partnership Agreement, which grants tariff-free access to various global markets, making Egypt an attractive hub for Spanish companies seeking competitive export destinations.
Minister El-Khatib outlined recent fiscal and monetary reforms, noting their expected positive impact on economic growth. He also detailed government efforts to transfer state-owned assets to Egypt’s sovereign fund to enhance investment efficiency.
The meeting further focused on renewable energy, with Minister El-Khatib highlighting opportunities in solar and wind energy projects, presenting promising avenues for Spanish investment in Egypt’s green energy sector.
