Egypt’s Suez Canal records highest daily traffic rate of 89 ships

Egypt’s Suez Canal recorded on Saturday the highest daily transit rate of transiting ships from both sides with 89 ships carrying a total net tonnage of 5.2 million tons, Suez Canal Authority’s (SCA) chairman Osama Rabie announced.

SCA clarified the number of ships crossing form north reached 44 ships with a net tonnage of 3 million tons, while 45 ships passed from the south in the new navigational course of the canal with a total net tonnage of 2.2 million tons.

The canal had witnessed a significant increase since the opening of the New Suez Canal project, as the average daily transit rose from 48 ships to 62 ships currently, Rabie added.

Chinese giant container ship COSCO SHIPPING PISCES with a total tonnage of 202 thousand tons, has crossed the canal from the north on its next voyage from the United Kingdom to Singapore, according to SCA statement.

Moreover, the canal witnessed on Saturday crossing of different types of giant ships, as 23 container ships and 23 bulk ships, in addition to 24 general and multi-purpose cargo ships, as well as 14 oil tankers, and 3 LNG carriers.
