European shares edged higher on Monday as investors weighed the prospects of easing tariff tensions and a key week of corporate earnings and economic data.
Hopes that the US may negotiate with China to cool a growing trade dispute lifted European markets, with optimism remaining that talks could eventually lead to a resolution between the world’s two largest economies.
The pan-European STOXX 600 rose 0.31 per cent by 8:20 GMT. Germany’s DAX added 0.25 per cent, France’s CAC 40 gained 0.43 per cent, and the UK’s FTSE 100 edged up 0.24 per cent. Spain’s IBEX 35 also saw a rise of 0.43 per cent.
