Google pledges €25 mln to enhance AI skills in Europe

Google has pledged 25 million euros ($26.98 million) to support AI education in Europe, with a particular focus on vulnerable and underserved communities, according to the company’s statement on Monday.

“We’ll start by dedicating EUR 10 million of this to equipping workers with the skills they need to avoid being left behind,” the statement added.

In partnership with the Centre for Public Impact, Google seeks applications from social enterprises and nonprofits that can help reach the people who would benefit most from this training.

The company will also provide support for companies using AI to scale their businesses through “growth academies” and has expanded its free online AI training courses to 18 languages.

The courses are free of charge and available to everyone, offering a series of modules on introductory AI skills to help people and businesses get practical skills and knowledge, the statement said.

Adrian Brown, executive director of the Centre for Public Impact, stated that the program aims to ensure that everyone in Europe can develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence in AI, the statement added.
