Nile University President: Morsi’s Decree Should Be Passed First To Parliament

Nile University management have ruled out any reversal repercussions of the decree issued by Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in regard to launching Zewail City in the 6th of October City pointing out that it has obtained a court ruling in favor of the university. 
Dr. Tarek Khalil, NU President, said Dr. Morsi’s decree should be passed to the parliament first as it must be approved according to the new Constitution, emphasizing  that the decree on founding the university is unclear lacking the details of the mechanisms, procedures and steps in regard to launching Zewail City.

He further told ‘Amwal Al Ghad’ that the NU management has not yet taken any precautionary measures a response to the presidential decree as it has obtained the court ruling which stressed its right to benefit from the university’s lands in Sheikh Zayed City, Sixth of October.
The presidential decree on launching Zewail City will not affect NU’s plans for this year.” Khalil noted

It is worth mentioning that the Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi issued a decree on Tuesday approving carrying out Zewail City for Information and Technology (Egypt project for scientific renaissance) as a non-profit scientific research institution, in Sheikh Zayed City Sixth of October with the possibility of establishing other branches in provinces.

Furthermore,in the last month Administrative Court ruled the return of NU lands which had been earmarked to Dr. Ahmed Zewail, and refused to turn NU into a public University. The former Member of Parliament Hamdy Al Fakhrany, had filed a lawsuit to the Administrative Court, demanded the cancellation of the acquisition of the university’s lands and issuing a republic decree to turn the NU to a public university.
