TAQA Arabia launches largest solar power plant in Sharm El Sheikh ahead of COP27

Egypt-headquartered TAQA Power an affiliate of TAQA Arabia Group announced on Thursday the start of operating the biggest solar power plant in Sharm El Sheikh, with a production capacity of more than 42 gigawatt-hours/year.

This step comes align with Egypt’s strategy towards expanding the use of clean energy as it coinciding the upcoming COP27 UN climate summit in Sharm El Sheikh next November.

The plant will reduce carbon emissions by 500,000 tons over the 25-year project, TAQA’s managing director Sami Abdel Qader, noted.

The group is operating the largest green and clean power plant in Sharm El Sheikh with a capacity of 20 MW so far, said its chairman Khaled Abu Bakr.

According to TAQA’s CEO Pakinam Kafafi, the 20 MW has already started to be supplied for more than 6,000 hotel rooms with clean electricity,

Kafafi further said that the company’s services cater the need of renewable energy to serve several sectors, including the agricultural, touristic, industrial and residential sectors.

The project build on an area of 250,000 square metres at an investment cost 250 million Egyptian pounds ($17.707 million).
