Trump promises major tariffs on Chinese goods if re-elected
US presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced plans to impose significant tariffs on foreign goods if elected, stating it will bolster the economy.
During a televised debate with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, Trump criticised the state of the economy, calling inflation the worst in US history.
Trump’s election platform includes a proposal to impose a 10 per cent tariff on all imported goods, with Chinese imports facing a 60 per cent tariff and foreign-made cars subject to a 100 per cent tariff.
The debate, hosted by ABC, is the first between the two candidates and may be the only one, as further debates have not been agreed upon.
