Vodafone named first principal partner for COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt
Vodafone is to be a principal partner of Communications for the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Egypt, according to Vodafone’s statement on Thursday. It will provide connectivity and showcasing how digital technologies can help address the climate crisis.
COP27 UN conference will take place in November 2022 in Sharm-el-Sheikh.
Vodafone will support the Egyptian government not only provide connectivity for the global conference, but also showcase how digital technology can deal with climate change, boost energy efficiency, strengthen a circular economy and assist food security.
Vodafone plans to display how the internet and other digital technologies can help in creating a more energy efficient, cleaner and productive society, particularly in agriculture and transport sectors.
The company’s environmental targets, explains why they’re credible, and reflects on the journey so far on the road to net zero, according to Vodafone’s UK CEO Ahmed Essam.
“The COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, is a critical opportunity to accelerate the urgent and sustained action required to address the climate emergency.” Vodafone Group CEO Nick Read said.
Vodafone Group has a purpose to reach net zero carbon emissions across its full value chain by 2040, while helping customers reduce their own carbon emissions by 350m tonnes by 2030.
