Sunak fires Home Secretary after pro-Palestine march row

UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, fired his Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, Monday after a bitter row over the policing of a pro-Palestinian march in London.
James Cleverly has been appointed to take her place. 

Last week, Braverman published an explosive article in the New York Times claiming that police treated pro-Palestinian protesters more favorably than nationalists and far-right groups. 

The article, which was not approved by Prime Minister Sunak’s team at No.10 Downing Street, led to Braverman’s replacement. 

James Cleverly, the Former Foreign Secretary, is set to take her place, while the Foreign Secretary position will now be filled by ex-Prime Minister David Cameron. 

Braverman’s dismissal comes after violent scenes in London on Saturday, and a series of controversial statements which challenged the Prime Minister’s leadership, while cheering parts of the Tory party. 

There were reports of 145 arrests related to the demonstration, with most being counter-protestors. 

Following the arrests, Labour accused Ms. Braverman of “whipping up division” and “sowing the seeds of hatred and distrust”, which they believe led to the violence. 

Consequently, Sir Keir, a British politician and barrister, has criticised Ms. Braverman for degrading the role of home secretary.

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has called on Mr. Sunak to dismiss her.
