Egypt’s fruit, vegetable production hikes in ’22/’23

Egypt’s agricultural sector has achieved remarkable growth in both fruit and vegetable production during the 2022/2023 agricultural year.

According to recent data from CAPMAS, vegetable production surged to 24.9 million tons, marking a 5.2 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This boost has led to a rise in per capita vegetable consumption from 80.7 kilograms to 84.9 kilograms.

Concurrently, fruit production also experienced a significant uptick, reaching 13.79 million tons, a 6.2 per cent increase from 2021/2022 levels. As a result, per capita fruit consumption has risen from 65.6 kilograms to 69.3 kilograms.
