Malaysia’s inflation rate eased slightly to 1.8 per cent in September 2024, compared to the same month in 2023. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose to 133.2 in September 2024 from 130.8 in the same month of the previous year.
In September 2024, the Food & Beverages group, which accounts for 29.8 per cent of the total CPI weight, saw a 1.6 per cent increase, consistent with the rate recorded in August 2024.
The primary subgroup, Food at Home, rose by 0.4 per cent from 0.3 per cent in August 2024, primarily driven by inflation in the Meat expenditure class, which increased by 0.7 per cent compared to a decrease of 0.7 per cent in August 2024.
