Remittances from Jordanian expats grow 3.2% YoY in 9m – CBJ

Remittances from Jordanian expatriates recorded a 3.2 per cent year-on-year rise in the first three quarters of 2024, reaching $2.645 billion, according to preliminary data by the Jordan’s Central Bank (CBJ) on Sunday.

Earlier, remittances stood at $2.563 billion in the first three quarters of 2023.

On the other hand, the country’s tourism sector experienced a slight decline. Tourism income for the first ten months of the year reached $6.153 billion, a 4.4 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2023. This decline was primarily attributed to a 6.6 per cent decrease in tourist arrivals.

Tourist income from Jordanian expatriates and Arabs increased by 6.2 per cent and 11.6 per cent, respectively. Meanwhile, income from European, US, and other nationalities declined by 56.3 per cent, 39.5 per cent, and 20.5 per cent, respectively.
