Norwegian seabed mining start-up Green Minerals announced a potential delay of up to 12 months in Norway’s first deep-sea mining licensing round after the government scrapped its planned announcement to secure budget approval from a left-wing environmentalist party.
Despite the setback, Green Minerals maintains its timeline for initial ore extraction by the late 2020s.
The Norwegian government had aimed to issue exploration permits in early 2025 but paused the plan following political opposition. However, preparatory efforts, including regulatory frameworks and environmental impact assessments, will proceed.
Norway’s emerging seabed mining sector, including companies like Loke, Green Minerals, and Adepth, had expressed interest in participating in the licensing round.
