The Egyptian Cabinet approved on Thursday the granting of a golden licence to Lesaffre Egypt for Yeast Manufacturing (LSE) to establish and operate a yeast production and packaging facility. The decision was announced during the Cabinet’s 28th ministerial meeting.
The new plant will be located in the Second Industrial Zone of New Nubaria, Beheira Governorate, spanning 43,800 square metres. It will produce 22,600 tons of active dry yeast annually, with the first phase, producing 11,300 tons, expected to be completed by August 2026. The second phase is slated for completion by August 2028.
Part of the food and agriculture sector, the project will also produce yeast derivatives for use in food, animal feed, and baking products. With an investment of €120 million, fully self-financed, the facility aims to boost exports, with over 90 per cent of its output destined for international markets. The project also seeks to foster technology localisation and innovation in Egypt’s yeast industry.
