Egypt’s Minister of Industry and Transport Kamel El-Wazir inaugurated on Wednesday the Elsewedy Electric factory for telecom cables, with an investment of two billion Egyptian pounds, as per a statement published by the Cabinet.
The factory has an annual production capacity of 4 million kilometres of optical fibre cables and 200,000 kilometres of copper cables, with a 49.5 per cent local component and a target of exporting 50 per cent of output. It employs 400 workers.
The industrial developer model has proven to be a successful partnership between the private sector and the government in advancing local manufacturing and increasing high-value-added exports, stated El-Wazir.
The developer offers business development services to attract foreign direct investment, including planning, marketing, managing industrial zones, and facilitating communication with government entities.
The minister emphasised the importance of utilising the Egyptian Accreditation Council’s (EGAC) services for laboratory accreditation at Elsewedy company’s factory to facilitate market access for Egyptian exports.
El-Wazir noted that the plant manufacturer is solely funded by Egyptian investments, praising the country’s goal of becoming a regional manufacturing hub in line with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi‘s vision.
