UK inflation eases in March

The UK’s annual inflation rate declined to 2.6% in March 2025, down from 2.8% in February, marking the lowest level since October 2024, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The largest downward contributions came from recreation and culture and motor fuels, while clothing provided the largest upward pressure.

On a monthly basis, CPI increased by 0.3 per cent in March, compared with a 0.6 per cent rise in the same month last year.

Core CPIH, which excludes energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, increased by 4.2 per cent in the year to March 2025, down from 4.4 per cent in February. The annual rate for CPIH goods eased from 0.8 per cent to 0.6 per cent, while the rate for CPIH services slowed from 5.7 per cent to 5.4 per cent.
