Egypt’s net agricultural income jumps 71.5% to EGP1.09tn in 2022/2023

Egypt’s net agricultural income surged by 71.55 per cent to 1.0885 trillion Egyptian pounds in 2022/2023, up from 634.5 billion Egyptian pounds in 2021/2022, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).

According to the CAPMAS report the value of agricultural output increased by 67.83 per cent, reaching 1.797 trillion Egyptian pounds in 2022/2023, compared to 1.0707 trillion Egyptian pounds a year earlier. The growth was driven by higher farm-gate prices for food commodities such as crops, vegetables, and fruits.

Plant production accounted for 59.28 per cent of the total agricultural output, followed by livestock production at 33.84 per cent, fish production at 6.86 per cent, and insect-based products at 0.02 per cent.

The value of agricultural production inputs rose by 62.44 per cent to 708.5 billion Egyptian pounds in 2022/2023, up from 436.2 billion Egyptian pounds in 2021/2022. Inputs for livestock and insect production represented 65.81 per cent of the total, while plant production inputs accounted for 23.90 per cent and fish production inputs 10.29 per cent.
