Egypt has received 1.4 million tons of domestically grown wheat so far this season, with deliveries expected to accelerate in the coming days, Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk said on Wednesday during a weekly Cabinet meeting.
Minister Farouk noted that Tuesday recorded the highest daily intake of wheat to date, reaching 130,000 tons, and added that procurement volumes are likely to rise further as the harvest progresses.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk confirmed the disbursement of 3 billion Egyptian pounds ($59.3 million) allocated to cotton farmers. He said minor issues remain but are being resolved in coordination with other ministries.
The developments come as part of the government’s efforts to secure strategic grain reserves and support local producers amid ongoing economic reforms.
