S&P Global: UK consumer sentiment rises to 45.2 in May

UK’s Consumer Sentiment Index (CSI) increased to 45.2 in May from 44.5 in April, showing a second consecutive monthly rise but staying below the neutral 50 level, signalling ongoing pessimism, S&P Global reported on Monday.

This indicates that sentiment among UK households remains negative, though slightly improved from the previous month.

“UK households remained resolutely downbeat in May, though the level of financial pessimism eased compared to April and has now even risen above the survey’s long-run average,” said an economist at S&P Global Market Intelligence.
