The Ministry of Health and Population has signed a cooperation agreement on Tuesday with eHealth to operate and manage Egypt’s national digital health system, supporting the country’s strategic plan to enhance healthcare quality and public health through digital transformation.
eHealth is a private sector investment company aiming to manage and operate the digital and technological services for the Universal Health Insurance System and to enable the private sector technology providers to access the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS).
Under the agreement, eHealth will review the Ministry’s current digital health strategy and develop a comprehensive operational model for its implementation. The company will also propose a financial and investment model to ensure long-term sustainability and attract private investment to the digital health sector. Additionally, a roadmap will be prepared to align the strategy with the rollout phases of the Universal Health Insurance System (UHIS).
The forthcoming strategic study will focus on two main areas: establishing the technological infrastructure necessary to operate digital health systems effectively, and creating a development plan for hospitals, clinics, and healthcare providers through investment opportunities and long-term partnerships.
Moreover, a high-level committee, to be formed by ministerial decree, will oversee the implementation of the agreement and provide regular reports to the Minister of Health and the Chairman of eHealth.
According to the Ministry’s statement, the agreement is part of Egypt’s national digital health strategy, aiming to establish an integrated, technology-driven health system aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Minister of Health Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the deal reflects the government’s commitment to modernising healthcare services and ensuring they keep pace with technological advancements.
