Egypt steps up industrial localisation with new fire safety facility

Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El Khatib inaugurated a new firefighting capacity and equipment testing centre at the General Organisation for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) in Badr City as part of national efforts to localise key industries and increase exports.

El Khatib stressed the ministry’s commitment to providing internationally accredited laboratories equipped with the latest technologies and staffed by qualified professionals capable of conducting a full range of tests and inspections.

He noted that upgrading GOEIC’s facilities would improve the investment climate by offering reliable local testing services, enhancing investor confidence.

The centre, which specialises in testing fire extinguishing capacity and equipment, supports the government’s strategy to localise essential industries.

El Khatib added that modern technical infrastructure would help raise the quality of Egyptian products and strengthen their global competitiveness—contributing to Egypt’s export target of $145 billion annually.

The new centre is expected to foster the domestic fire extinguisher industry, enhance the competitiveness of Egyptian goods abroad, and reduce reliance on foreign testing bodies.

It will also facilitate the issuance of conformity and inspection certificates needed for exports, thereby supporting national manufacturers in the fire safety and civil protection sectors.
