Egypt, Maire Tecnimont review progress on nitric acid plant in Aswan – Cabinet

Egypt’s Minister of Public Business Sector Mohammed Sheemy met with officials from Italian engineering group Maire Tecnimont to review progress on a new production complex being developed by Chemical Industries Company (Kima) in Aswan, the Cabinet said on Thursday.

The facility will produce 600 tons per day of nitric acid, which will be fully converted into 800 tonnes per day of ammonium nitrate, the statement added.

The project aims to strengthen Egypt’s fertiliser industry by increasing value-added output, boosting food security, and expanding both domestic supply and exports.

Minister Sheemy underlined the strategic importance of industrial investment in Upper Egypt and called for completing the project on schedule and in compliance with international standards for quality, safety, and environmental sustainability.

The minister noted that the new complex builds on Egypt’s partnership with Tecnimont, following the successful launch of the Kima 2 ammonia and urea plant in 2020.

Maire Tecnimont CEO Alessandro Bernini reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s efforts to modernise its chemical industry, highlighting its role in technology transfer and advanced engineering to ensure timely execution.
