Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi on Sunday inspected the Energos Power floating regasification unit at Alexandria Port as part of preparations to secure natural gas supplies during the summer. The vessel is being outfitted ahead of its deployment to Ain Sokhna Port, where it will be connected to help meet rising energy demand.
The move is part of a broader plan to boost the flexibility of Egypt’s national gas grid by adding new regasification units capable of receiving imported LNG and injecting it directly into the network, especially to support power stations and vital sectors during peak consumption months.
Badawi highlighted the importance of accelerating the vessel’s readiness while complying with safety and environmental standards. He noted that Egypt now has three regasification ships, including one already operational at the SUMED terminal in Sokhna, with two more—Energos Power among them—being prepared for service at SUMED and Sonker terminals.
The minister reaffirmed ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Electricity to ensure stable fuel supplies for power generation, in line with directives from the Prime Minister. He was accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry, Petrojet, and Enppi.
