Egypt signs IoT vehicle service licences with 7 global auto manufacturers

Egypt’s telecoms regulator has on Tuesday granted licences to seven international automotive manufacturers to roll out Internet of Things (IoT) services for vehicles, in a step aimed at advancing the country’s digital transport systems.

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) said the agreements will allow carmakers to provide connected features such as navigation, vehicle tracking and emergency assistance, while safeguarding user data and privacy.

The licences were signed in the presence of Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, with the following companies:

  • OnStar (General Motors)
  • Mansour MG Automotive (IM brand – China)
  • Global Auto (BMW)
  • Alfa Ezz Elarab (Volvo, Aston Martin, Lotus, Lynk&Co)
  • Egyptian International Motors (EIM) (Zeekr, BAIC)
  • Egyptian Commercial and Automotive Co. (Audi, Skoda)
  • SMG Engineering Automotive (Porsche, Scania)

NTRA CEO Mohamed Shmorouk said the move marks a new phase in Egypt’s smart mobility ecosystem and aligns with the government’s digital transformation strategy. Talaat added that connected car services will enhance road safety and convenience for drivers, while contributing to the development of smart transport networks.

The initiative forms part of the state’s “Digital Egypt” strategy, which seeks to localise advanced global technologies and expand access to secure digital services for consumers.
