Egypt, India discuss expanding food security cooperation

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Atty met on Thursday with India’s Health, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda in New Delhi to discuss strengthening cooperation in food security and the trade of strategic commodities, Egyptian foreign ministry said.

Abdel-Atty reviewed key outcomes of the Egypt–India strategic partnership agreement, stressing the importance of closer coordination between the two countries to enhance trade integration in essential goods amid ongoing global food challenges.

He said Egypt is expanding domestic fertiliser production through new plants to meet both local and international demand, adding that this growth could open new opportunities for trade exchange with India.

The minister proposed exploring preferential trade arrangements based on a mutually agreed pricing formula that would allow for the exchange of Egyptian fertilisers for Indian agricultural products.

Abdel-Atty also invited India to send a technical delegation to Egypt, including representatives from relevant ministries and agencies, to discuss mechanisms for expanding bilateral trade and strengthening cooperation in food and commodity security.
