Egypt launches youth initiative to train next generation of agricultural innovators

Egypt’s Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk announced Sunday a new initiative inviting university students and young researchers to visit the ministry’s research centres and advanced laboratories, providing hands-on experience and fostering innovation in the agricultural sector.

The announcement came during the Egyptian Women Summit at Nile University, which brought together top investors, startup representatives, and students in science and technology fields. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, along with senior experts and scientists, also attended the event.

Farouk said the initiative will start with Nile University students as the “core” group, organising visits to research centres, advanced labs, agricultural quarantine and veterinary facilities, and large-scale mechanised farms. Students will gain exposure to cutting-edge seed and crop technologies, food safety standards, and modern farm management practices.

“Ministry of Agriculture is a hub for ideas,” Farouk said, emphasising the importance of engaging young talent and leveraging their skills and ambitions. He noted that the ministry’s new structure prioritises youth empowerment and the modernisation of laboratories.

The programme is part of Egypt’s broader push to integrate science and technology into agriculture, equipping the next generation with the skills needed to drive innovation, enhance productivity, and support the country’s strategic food security goals.
