Cairo International Airport handled a record 103,000 passengers on 696 flights on Thursday, marking its busiest day of the year as travel demand surged ahead of the Christmas and New Year holiday period.
The spike underscores the airport’s capacity to manage peak volumes, with operations running smoothly across its three passenger terminals, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said.
Passenger traffic at Egypt’s main gateway rose 6.8 per cent in 2025 to 30.944 million travellers, compared with 28.974 million a year earlier, while the total number of flights increased 4.8 per cent to 224,303 from 214,066.
Airport authorities boosted staffing levels and adopted flexible operating plans to accommodate the seasonal rush, as the government continues to invest in infrastructure upgrades aimed at reinforcing Cairo International Airport’s role as a regional aviation hub.
