Egypt’s Petroleum Min. reviews Mining Authority plans

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum, Karim Badawi, held a meeting on Sunday with the Board of Directors of the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, to follow up on work plans in light of legislative amendments that transformed the Authority into an economic authority.

Participants reviewed progress on completing procedures to launch a nationwide aerial minerals survey project, alongside ongoing discussions with several companies to inject new investments in gold and mineral exploration and prospecting. The meeting also followed up on new licences for the exploration and exploitation of mineral ores.

Discussions further addressed cooperation with Egyptian and international companies under existing agreements to study industrial projects aimed at maximising added value, particularly from phosphate ore, supporting the ministry’s efforts to facilitate investment in the mining sector and increase economic returns from mineral resources.

Badawi stressed the importance of full coordination among board members and integration between representatives of the relevant ministries and entities to develop a strategy for the optimal utilisation of mineral wealth, directing that the board convene regular meetings.
