Egypt reviews plans for nationwide mineral survey after Cabinet approval
Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy met with the board of the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority (MRMIA) on Wednesday to discuss preparations for a nationwide geophysical aerial survey of mineral resources following recent Cabinet approval.
The meeting, chaired by MRMIA head Yasser Ramadan, examined work plans as the authority prepares to operate as an economic entity aimed at increasing the mining sector’s contribution to the national economy. The officials also discussed progress towards launching a digital portal for mining investment.
Badawy welcomed the Cabinet’s approval for the authority to contract X-Calibur to carry out the survey across Egypt, describing the project as an important step towards identifying critical minerals and rare elements used in various industries.
He said the project would require coordination among relevant government bodies to monitor implementation, meet deadlines and maximise the value of the geological data collected.
