GCC secretary-general signals stronger energy ties with Egypt at EGYPES 2026

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is seeking to strengthen energy cooperation with Egypt, Secretary-General Jasem AlBudaiwi said on Monday at the opening of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026).

In a recorded keynote speech, AlBudaiwi praised President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for advancing ties between Egypt and the Gulf states, particularly in the energy sector, calling the relationship “rooted in historical and fraternal bonds” and guided by a shared economic vision.

He highlighted the success of last year’s Egypt-Gulf Forum on Trade and Investment, which launched several joint investment initiatives, and said the GCC is working with Egypt to host the first Egypt-Gulf Energy Conference in 2027 to deepen sector collaboration.

AlBudaiwi also warned that recent Iranian attacks on Gulf states threaten global energy security, extending beyond the region, and called for international efforts to safeguard energy corridors and maritime navigation.
