Egypt restructures economic ministerial team to strengthen fiscal-monetary coordination
Egypt restructured its economic ministerial group on Thursday, placing it under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, as part of efforts to improve coordination between fiscal and monetary policy amid ongoing economic challenges.
The revamp, set out in Cabinet Decree No. 1013 of 2026 published in the Official Gazette, brings together senior officials responsible for shaping the country’s economic direction. The committee includes the governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the deputy prime minister for economic affairs, and the ministers of supply, foreign affairs, investment and foreign trade, planning and economic development, and industry, as well as the chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA).
In a notable shift, the finance minister has been appointed rapporteur of the group and its official spokesperson, signalling a more central role for the ministry in communicating economic policy.
The group will meet weekly or as needed and may invite additional officials and outside experts to attend its meetings when required, according to the decree.
