Egypt’s PM reviews fuel-saving measures across state projects

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Monday reviewed measures to rationalise petroleum consumption in government projects as part of efforts to curb imports and ease pressure on the state budget.

The government is evaluating projects that could be postponed under the plan, which aims to reduce fuel use and improve energy efficiency.

Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir said 20 road projects have been selected for postponement based on government-set criteria, while projects nearing completion and those deemed strategic will continue.

Minister of Housing Randa El-Menshawy said the ministry is implementing the postponement plan to help reduce the import bill amid ongoing global pressures.

Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy said Egypt is securing fuel supplies for production and public use while taking steps to curb demand and limit the impact of regional tensions.

Madbouly called for stronger coordination between ministries to monitor implementation and ensure priority projects proceed without disrupting essential services or development goals.
