Egypt launches foreign trade procedures portal with UNCTAD to simplify imports, exports

Egypt has launched its Foreign Trade Procedures Portal in cooperation with the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) to simplify import and export processes and improve transparency, the Ministry of Investment said on Wednesday.

The platform, funded by the United Kingdom, consolidates trade-related procedures and regulations into a single system, providing updated information on import, export, and transit requirements, including steps, responsible authorities, and contact points.

“The Foreign Trade Procedures Portal is an important step toward simplifying import and export procedures and strengthening the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy,” Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid said.

He added that “the portal is a key tool in the digital transformation of the trade system and complements broader efforts to enhance export capacity.”

He said the initiative aligns with Egypt’s commitments under the World Trade Organisation’s (WTO) Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA), which it joined in 2019, and aims to reduce time, costs, and administrative burdens on businesses.

The government said the platform forms part of broader efforts to improve the business environment and facilitate cross-border trade.
