Egypt’s Prime Minitser inaugurates $8m Borex Glass factory in Sokhna
Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly inaugurated on Thursday the Borex Glass Co. factory in the Sokhna Industrial Zone, with investments of up to $8 million.
The factory, located within the TEDA Egypt industrial developer area, specialises in manufacturing heat-resistant household glassware, including borosilicate glass products. The project is a specialised industry producing borosilicate heat-resistant household glass. Moreover, it is built on an area of 20,000 square metres, with investments ranging between $6 million and $8 million, and an annual production capacity of up to 9,000 tons.
The factory is the first of its kind in the Middle East, Africa, and the Arab world in this field, and relies on more than 90 per cent of its production inputs from local sources, primarily high-quality Egyptian silica. It targets directing more than 70 per cent of its production to export markets, contributing to supporting the trade balance and providing foreign currency, in addition to creating around 140 direct jobs and 300 indirect jobs.
The inauguration took place during Madbouly’s tour of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) to open several new factories. Madbouly said the project reflects the state’s direction towards supporting specialised, high-value-added industries and strengthening reliance on local raw materials in manufacturing, contributing to building a competitive industrial base in global markets.
He added that the state is focusing on attracting qualitative industrial investments that support export expansion and reduce imports, particularly in industries that generate added value for the national economy.
