Egypt said on Monday it discussed a proposed container terminal at Ain Sokhna Port with Chinese firms Jiangsu Port Logistics Group Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Huanji International Logistics Co., Ltd., with an initial investment of $400 million.
The project would have a planned capacity of 2 million containers, according to a Cabinet statement following a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa and Chinese investors.
The talks were held in the presence of Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien.
The statement said the proposal is part of broader cooperation between Egypt and China in ports and logistics, with Cairo positioning the SCZONE as a regional trade hub linking Asian manufacturing to African and European markets.
