Suez Canal Authority launches Fakhr 1 Vessel sailing trials

Egypt’s Suez Canal Authority began sailing trials on Sunday for the integrated petroleum supply and services vessel Fakhr 1 ahead of its entry into the Authority’s maritime fleet after construction was completed at the Ningde Tai Jinzhou Yuanjin shipyard in China.

Fakhr 1 is equipped with fuel-efficient technology, diving support systems, and a DP2 dynamic positioning system that allows it to maintain position without anchors. The vessel is 64.8 metres long, 16 metres wide, has a 5 metre draft, and can accommodate 60 crew members.

The vessel is owned by a consortium of El Timsah Shipbuilding Company, Canal Mooring & Lights Co. (CCML), and Canal Rope Company. It is the fourth vessel in the petroleum services fleet operated by El Timsah, which already includes Aman, Ahmed Fadel, and Badr.

Suez Canal Authority Chairman Osama Rabie said the vessel completed sea and harbour trials in China in the presence of El Timsah representatives and the American Bureau of Shipping, with delivery procedures under way ahead of entering service next month.
