Sisi meets CMA-CGM chief at Africa-France Summit

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman of French shipping group CMA CGM, on Tuesday to discuss expanding the company’s investments in Egypt’s ports and logistics sector, the presidency said.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Africa-France Summit in Nairobi.

Sisi welcomed CMA CGM’s existing investments in Egypt, praising its involvement in the country’s maritime infrastructure, particularly the development and operation of the Red Sea Container Terminal at Sokhna Port, Egypt’s first semi-automated container terminal.

He said Egypt is seeking to attract further investment from the company, especially within the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), pointing to recent state incentives and ongoing upgrades to port and logistics infrastructure as key opportunities for expansion.

Saadé, for his part, expressed the company’s interest in strengthening its presence in Egypt, citing its strategic geographic position and growing capabilities in shipping, transport, and logistics services.

The two sides also discussed disruptions to global maritime routes amid regional tensions. Sisi called for coordinated international efforts to ease supply chain bottlenecks and ensure the stability of global trade flows, particularly for energy and food shipments.

The talks further touched on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and African countries to deepen economic integration, improve trade connectivity, and strengthen maritime links across the continent.
