Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index rose 6.6 per cent in March 2026, according to preliminary data released on Sunday by the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
The index for manufacturing and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, recorded 128.14 points in March 2026 on a preliminary basis, compared with 120.21 points in February 2026 on a final basis, marking a rise of 6.6 per cent.
Food products manufacturing registered the strongest increase, with the index rising to 181.21 in March 2026 from 149.08 in February 2026, up 21.55 per cent, supported by higher production during seasonal periods and holidays.
The chemicals and chemical products sector also increased, with the index reaching 119.38 in March 2026 compared with 101.89 in February 2026, up 17.17 per cent, driven by market demand.
In contrast, tobacco products declined to 130.34 in March 2026 from 147.87 in February 2026, down 11.86 per cent in line with market demand.
Electrical equipment also fell to 77.95 in March 2026 compared with 81.81 in February 2026, a decrease of 4.72 per cent, also reflecting market needs.
