Egypt sees no need for new IMF programme after 2026 – PM
Egypt does not plan to enter a new financing programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) after its current agreement expires at the end of 2026, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Thursday.
“The government does not see a need for a new programme with the IMF during the coming period,” Madbouly told a press conference, adding that the existing IMF-backed programme will conclude in December 2026.
Egypt is currently implementing reforms under its multi-billion-dollar IMF support package aimed at strengthening macroeconomic stability, attracting foreign investment, and supporting growth.
Madbouly said an IMF mission had already visited Cairo and completed most of its review work before the Eid Al-Adha holiday, with technical discussions continuing with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) and the Ministry of Finance.
“We expect the results of the seventh review to be released shortly,” he said.
The IMF programme has served as a key anchor for Egypt’s economic reform agenda since its launch.
