Egypt signs 3 agreements to localise vaccine manufacturing, transfer technology

Egypt signed three strategic agreements on Tuesday aimed at transferring vaccine technology and expanding local vaccine and serum manufacturing, the health ministry said.

Genvax Technologies signed the agreements with China’s Sinovac Biotech, Egypt’s Centre for Research and Regenerative Medicine, and Russia’s Chumakov Centre.

Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar witnessed the signing on the sidelines of the Africa Health ExCon conference in Cairo.

The agreements are intended to support technology transfer, strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities, and expand research and development in the pharmaceutical sector, according to the ministry.

The ministry said the agreements represent a qualitative step in the state’s strategy to localise advanced industries and expand international partnerships to transfer expertise and modern technologies, achieve self-sufficiency in vaccines and serums, and strengthen preparedness for health challenges.

The ministry did not disclose financial details or production targets associated with the agreements.
