The Egyptian pound was broadly unchanged against the US dollar in midday trading on Sunday, extending a period of stability in the foreign-exchange market as steady hard-currency liquidity and improving investor sentiment continued to underpin the local currency.
The U.S. dollar traded at an average of 49.82 Egyptian pounds for buying and 49.92 pounds for selling across five major banks as of 11:49 a.m. local time (08:49 GMT), according to data compiled by Amwal Al Ghad English.
| Bank | Buy (EGP/USD) | Sell (EGP/USD) |
| National Bank of Egypt (NBE) | 49.81 | 49.91 |
| Banque Misr | 49.81 | 49.91 |
| Commercial International Bank (CIB) | 49.82 | 49.92 |
| QNB Alahli | 49.8200 | 49.9200 |
| Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) | 49.8500 | 49.9500 |
The Egyptian pound has traded within a relatively narrow range against the dollar in recent weeks, supported by stronger foreign-currency inflows, improving investor confidence, and easing pressure on the domestic foreign-exchange market.
The currency’s resilience reflects a more balanced supply-demand dynamic in the banking sector, helping to maintain exchange-rate stability despite continued global market uncertainty.
