Egypt’s South Valley Egyptian Petroleum Holding Company (Ganope) has launched a programme to revive production at the Al Baraka oilfield in Aswan after a new drilling rig arrived at the site, as the government steps up efforts to boost domestic oil and gas output, the petroleum ministry said Monday.
The programme includes the maintenance of existing production wells and the drilling of new development and exploration wells as part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ strategy to increase domestic hydrocarbon production.
The work is being carried out in partnership with Canada’s Meditera, the concession area’s investment partner. The initial phase includes maintenance of several producing wells and the drilling of two new wells, with the programme expected to expand depending on operational results and technical assessments.
Ganope Chairman Samir Raslan visited the field in Kom Ombo, Aswan, alongside officials from both companies to oversee the start of operations following the arrival of the drilling and workover rig and to review equipment readiness and the implementation schedule.
Raslan said the programme would help restore production at the Al Baraka field, accelerate drilling and field development activities, and maximise the use of Egypt’s petroleum resources in line with the ministry’s strategy to increase domestic production and meet local demand.
