Egypt to upgrade 23 youth centres under civil society partnerships
Egypt will upgrade 23 youth centres across several governorates under six cooperation agreements between the Ministry of Youth and Sports and six civil society organisations, the ministry said on Thursday.
The agreements were signed with the National Alliance for Civil and Developmental Action (NACDW), Misr El Kheir Foundation, Sonaa ELKheir Foundation, Lebaladna Foundation for Social and Civic Development, Siddiqiya Foundation, and Dr. Hassan Abbas Zaki Foundation for Development.
“There are ongoing efforts to develop youth centres across all governorates to serve young people in various fields, including sports and community empowerment, as well as health, economic, cultural, scientific, digital, and political awareness, community service and human development,” Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said.
“President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has continuously directed that all necessary measures be taken to raise youth and sports work to the highest levels based on a scientific approach, contributing to development, the comprehensive and healthy upbringing of young people and children, and the preservation of public health by making sports and physical activity part of the culture and lifestyle of Egyptians,” he added.
The projects will be implemented over up to two years and will include upgrades tailored to the needs of each youth centre, with priority given to border governorates and Upper Egypt, Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil said.
The initiative will expand access to sports, training and community services, while projects in border areas and Upper Egypt will include converting some youth centres into integrated community service centres.
The partnerships will also provide training for 500,000 young people and other beneficiaries annually in entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, digital transformation, vocational skills, and traditional crafts. The projects will include community and vocational workshops, as well as measures to improve accessibility for people with disabilities at youth centres, the ministry said.
The ministry said the agreements form part of Egypt’s National Youth Strategy 2025-2030 and are aligned with Egypt Vision 2030.
The partnerships are intended to strengthen cooperation between the government, civil society, and the private sector and use the resources and expertise of participating organisations to support local development, the ministry said.
