BP starts Egypt gas well two years early to add 80 MMcf/d – ministry

BP Plc started production from the Fayoum-4 gas well in Egypt’s West Nile Delta (WND) two years ahead of schedule, adding about 80 million cubic feet per day (bcf/d) to the country’s output, the Petroleum Ministry announced Monday.

The well was brought online after BP accelerated development work and connected it to existing WND infrastructure, the ministry statement said.

The project highlights BP’s efforts to develop new gas resources by leveraging existing infrastructure, thereby reducing the time and investment required to bring additional volumes into production.

The Fayoum-4 Well was discovered during BP’s exploration campaign in 2025. The company subsequently developed the well and connected its production to existing gas-processing facilities.

BP drilled a sidetrack from the well to access additional Messinian reservoir layers at depths of about 3,000 metres, the ministry said.

Gas from the well is being transported through the Giza-Fayoum pipeline to West Nile Delta processing facilities.

By utilising existing pipelines and processing infrastructure, BP was able to accelerate the start of production and deliver additional gas volumes to Egypt’s domestic market sooner.

Wail Shaheen, President of BP Egypt, said the start-up supports the Petroleum Ministry’s strategy of accelerating field development, maximising existing infrastructure, and deploying the latest technologies to increase domestic gas production.
