Ten police personnel, including an aide to the head of the security directorate of the Suez Canal sity of Ismailia, were sentenced on Saturday to three years in prison for negligence that led to the escape of two dangerous prisoners.
The charged also include the warden of Ismailia’s Al-Mostaqbal prison and his deputy, Ahram’s Arabic news website reported.
The two prisoners who escaped had been given the death sentence.
The ten defendants were tried in a misdemeanour court, which fined them LE5, 000 ($700) each.
Two other police personnel are being tried by the criminal court on charges of receiving a bribe to help the two inmates escape.
