Smartphone sales rose by 474 pct last year: Jumia

A study conducted on Jumia, the African online retailer, consumer’s behavior found out that electronics mainly mobile phones seemed to be the most visited category. It showed that smartphones sale rose by 474 percent between 2014 and 2015.

Such rise is attributed to the dramatic fall of smartphones prices estimated to be 72 percent from 2012 to 2015. In this period of time mobile phones prices ranged from 755 to 2500  Egyptian pounds.

Rocket Internet GmbH (Jumia Egypt – Venture) announced launching “Jumia Mobile Week 2016” that will last for 7 days starting from the 30th of May to the 3rd of June. The website promises consumers with the best deals on mobile phones in partnership with top mobile phone brands.

Hesham Safwat, its executive director  said that his company contributes a lot to the development of Egypt’s mobile phones market by offering clients the best deals despite the fluctuations in the exchange rate between the US Dollar and the Egyptian Pound.

Brands like Xtouch and OneClick will be involved in the Jumia Mobile Week. Moreover, Infinix, Lenovo and Microsoft brands are going to release new devices exclusively in celebration of this event.
