Egyptian pharmaceuticals market is estimated at around 48 billion Egyptian pounds annually (US$5.4 billion), Head of Export Council of Medical Industries, Maged George stated Sunday.
He asserted that government’s support is necessary for the sector in order to boost pharmaceuticals exports through facilitating processes of granting licences and registrations.
The chairman added that medical industries sector is one of the prominent strategic industrial sectors whose exports need state’s supports to upgrade its competiveness in global markets .
The council submitted an urgent memo to Egypt’s Industry Minister Taek Qabil to include medical industries sector among the export support programme similar to other industrial sectors.
Chairperson George clarified that the council focuses on affective participation in foreign exhibitions in African markets notably Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire in addition to Arab and Europe markets.
