Completion rate in Shoubra-Banha Highway project is 60%: minister

Egyptian Minister of transportation Galal al-Saeed announced Saturday that 60 percent of work has been achieved in Shoubra-Banha highway project.

The project which costs 2.5 billion Egyptian pounds ($281.5 million) is scheduled to be delivered by the end of this year, the minister added.

Shoubra-Banha highway project includes the construction of a two-path road consisting of four lanes the width of each is 3.5 metres. It also includes implementing 41 bridges as well as 30 tunnels.

The new highway is expected to alleviate traffic congestion on the immensely crowded Cairo-Alexandria Agricultural Road.

The minister further asserted that his ministry is keeping track of completion rates in other major highway projects in the country which are scheduled to be fully executed within 2016 such as the new regional ring road and Bani Mazar/Al Bawety road in Minya governorate.
